Hello people of the inter webs!

Hello peoples!

First off, I should probably explain the title, my initials spell out mew. The nickname has been around for awhile. It has nothing to do with cats. I don't even own a cat. I have dogs. So the name means that this is my view, my point of view on the world, and stuff like that.

Now with that out of the way I want to start by introducing myself a bit. As of right now I am a senior in high school. I graduate in two weeks and am slightly freaked out by that. I play both flute and piccolo in my school's band. I have enjoyed doing theater and I love creative writing. I was the president of Future Teachers of America (FTA), so it should be no big surprise that I want to be a teacher; however, what surprises a lot of people is that I want to teach math. I have a huge family! I have an older brother who got married in January so now I also have a sister-in-law too. I have two younger brothers and two younger sisters. Fun fact: my sisters were adopted from China. And random fact: purple is my favorite color.

I think that's all the introducing I can handle at the moment. Time to get to the important stuff: why am I blogging. Well, for the time being this blog will mostly focus on the mission trip to China that I'm going on this summer through ACT Missions. Honestly this whole thing has felt pretty crazy from the start. The trip was almost canceled because we didn't have enough people. A full trip needed 12 people, we have 4. But unbelievably China is still letting us come! Oh, guess I should mention what I will be doing. So the four of us are going to an orphanage in Guangdong to help care for the kids! And while I can't wait to be there, I am starting to get a little worried about the travel aspect of it all.

Confessing time: I hate flying. Mostly because my ears are super sensitive to the air pressure changes and can be in pain for days after. And let's not forget the ordeal that is airport security. But I'm super nervous about flying internationally. I am the only person in my group who has never flown internationally. Oh and I will have turned 18 barely a month before the trip. The group consists of my mom who is the group leader, another adoptive mom, and a guy with a camera. So, yeah, I'm the baby.

After the trip I'll probably try and keep this blog running and it will probably be more normal things, if you could call my life normal. But until then I will keep you guys updated on my thoughts as I get ready for this  trip, all the stories from on the trip, and possibly some post trip reflection.

That's my view!
